In Art class this year the students are focusing on learning all about the elements of art and how artist use them to create their art works.

Each grade level learns about an element and then focuses on how a specific artist or art movement used that element or elements in their work.

They then are given an assignment to practice using the same techniques and/or design elements that they just learned about.

Currently, grades 3/4 have just started a new unit on lines. We are discussing how artist use lines to help not only convey feelings, but also to help move a persons eye around a work of art.

Grades 5/6 are just finishing up a lesson on Aborginal Art. They learned that the aborginal people of Australia are one of the oldest cultures in the world. We also learned that they did not have a written langanuge, thus they communicated through their art using symbols. For their projects the students were to create their own story using aborginal symbols.

Jr. High classes are starting a unit on printmaking. They are in the process of creating their own printing plates that they will soon ink up and then create printes from.
